Battle Against Fleas
One of the most irritating problems for pets is fleas. Fleas are tiny wingless insects that exist in warm and humid weather. They just jump on to your pet and you will find him scratching as if he is going crazy. Fleas not only attack pets but human beings as well. Only severe extended cold weather can kill them.
Besides being an irritating problem for your pet, it can cause some diseases as well, like tapeworms. In this case you will find him losing weight and suffering from diarrhea. Also he can be infectious to you and your family. Pets may get infected by fleas while contacting other pet or going to places like public gardens that are not using insecticides. Spring is the season for fleas when it’s getting warmer.
To find out whether your pet is having fleas or not, you may place him on a white sheet and start combing him. If you see any black small pieces this will be fleas’ dirt. You can be surer if you poured some drops of water on it. If it turns reddish so that’s it. We are having a serious problem here.
When you are positive that you are having a problem you must begin treating it. First you have to give your pet a good bath using an effective flea shampoo and then use an oral product which is available in the market. These products will prevent the hatching of flea’s eggs. In addition, you have to vacuum your house several times. Female fleas can lay thousands of eggs and it can live in wooden objects like floor or furniture or may be in carpets. You must clean your pets bed and belongings very well.
Positively all pets may be infected by fleas even the most clean and pampered ones. To prevent this infection you have to use oral products on monthly basis and vacuum your house as well. You must know that fleas don’t like water, so if you give your pet a bath frequently you will save him from fleas. Besides, combing him with a flea comb will be a great help. Some people use flea collars but it is not highly recommended as it can cause allergy or hair loss. Treat your grass but be sure to use a safe treatment that will not harm your children or pets.
Having a good eye on your pet will prevent a lot of problems. So, be a good pet parent and watch him carefully and remember that prevention is better than cure.
