To be a good pet parent you must take your pet out. It will not make any difference if you are taking him out for shopping or going on a vacation. The most important thing is your pet’s safety. If your pet is making quick movements like jumping or so, it is advisable to use barriers which prevent your pet from reaching you while driving.
But if you decided to go on a vacation by flight you have to make sure of certain precautions for the complete safety of your pet. You have to make sure that it is allowed to get pets on board. Some airlines limit the number of pets, so try to book early for your trip.
It is preferable to take a direct flight and to consider the temperature. Travel during night if it is hot and during day when it is cold. Better visit your veterinarian before your flight, to see if there are some precautions for your trip. Besides, some airlines ask for certificates that the pet is healthy or in case that there are some vaccinations needed.
Make sure that your pet’s name and yours, address and phone number are written on his collar. Don’t feed him immediately before boarding.
When you get a carrier for him, make sure that it is wide enough for him to stand up, move and turn around to be more comfortable. It must be labeled with a sign that there is a living animal inside with your name, address and phone number on it. Never let your pet out of his carrier on the plane. Take a recent photo for him in case you lost him in the air port. This may help in preventing many problems.
